What is emergency dentistry?

Emergency dentistry addresses urgent dental issues that require immediate attention. In some cases, delaying care for more than 30 minutes can mean the difference between saving or losing a tooth.

Dr. Inna Trogan understands the urgency of dental trauma and is committed to providing prompt treatment. When you visit a dentist specializing in emergency care, you can trust that your oral health will always be their top priority.

When is emergency dentistry needed?

Common dental emergencies include:
  • Knocked-out tooth
  • Continuous bleeding from your gums, tongue, or cheeks
  • Intense toothache
  • Foreign objects embedded in your gums or soft tissues
  • Loose permanent tooth
  • Swelling in the mouth, tongue, or gums
  • Cracked tooth
  • Broken tooth
  • Lip laceration
  • Signs of infection or abscess
If you experience any of these, call Signature Smile General & Cosmetic Dentistry immediately to find out what steps to take. The office staff can give guidance on tooth-saving actions before you arrive at the practice.

How does emergency dentistry work for a knocked-out tooth?

If your tooth is knocked out, quick action may help save it. First, locate the tooth and pick it up by the crown, not the roots. Gently rinse the tooth with water and rinse your mouth with warm water. If possible, place the tooth back in its socket and hold it in place with gauze or a clean cloth. If you can’t reinsert it, store the tooth in a cup of milk to preserve the root's moisture, or keep it in your mouth between your cheek and tongue.

Contact the office immediately, or have someone else call and explain the situation.

What can I expect when I arrive at my emergency dentistry appointment?

Your treatment will depend on the type of dental trauma you’ve experienced. Dr. Trogan and her team prioritize relieving your pain and saving your tooth. If your tooth has been knocked out, they will work to reimplant it. For damaged teeth, Dr. Trogan may provide a temporary restoration to protect the tooth until a permanent solution is available.
